Student Interviews

We recently sat down with at least one student from each grade level to ask them about their experiences at CEE. We feel that there is no better way to shine a light on our unique educational experience than to ask the students themselves. What you will find is a perfect blend of humor, passion, and authentic voice.

Rose – 1st Grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since Kindergarten.

Q:  Can you name on special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is really cool.

Q:  If your friend were to ask you why she should go to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  Well, I’d tell her that we have a really big library, a cool fish tank, and music class.  I really 

like Music.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  It was the father / daughter dance.  I really liked dressing up and watching my dad dance.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  Well, we have recess at the end of each day.  In music we learn cool songs.  The Fall Festival is fun too because we get to go to the park and play games with friends.

Q:  If you had to describe this school using one word, what would it be?

A:  Fun

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  We get to do a special moment story in our class.  The kids choose a special moment and tell the rest of the class in a story.  Also, I really like phonics.  I get to learn new sounds.

 

Cassie – 1st grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I started here in Kindergarten.

Q:  What is one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is really nice.

Q:  If your friend was thinking about coming to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  I would tell her that we have a lot less students here.  We have two playgrounds, one for the little kids and one for the big kids.  We get FISH tickets in class and when we are good, we get to put our name on a ticket.  At town meetings, they draw tickets and we win prizes.  

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  Messy Art.  This year we made mummies with newspaper and a bunch of gooey stuff.  I liked getting messy.  Our Art teacher’s hands were even stuck together.  It was funny.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  I get to go to Speech class and play games with my teacher.  We go to recess.  We get to do experiments with things like jello and tin foil.

Q:  Can you describe your school using one word?

A:  Special.

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  Stuff here isn’t just about learning, it’s about teamwork.

Lilly – Kindergarten

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since pre-school.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She always gives us homework in the morning.

Q:  If your friend were to ask you why she should go to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  We get to play at recess.  We do homework, which is the most important thing.  We do calendar every morning.  Also, we went to the farm and we picked pumpkins, vegetables, and saw baby carrots.  Finally, we get snack every day.  I like to eat shark gummies.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  I’ll never forget Mrs. Grell.  I have her written on a piece of paper in my mind.  I will never forget her.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We have center time where we play in all of the centers.  We sometimes have sharing.  If we win a medal, we can share that.  I won a real medal and got to share it.  It was really fun.

Q:  Can you describe CEE using one word?

A:  Pretty

Brandon – 2nd grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since pre-school.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is really nice.

Q:  If your friend asked you why he should go to CEE, what would you tell him?

A:  I would tell them a lot of things.  Everyone here is very nice and you can make a lot of friends.  We get to have a Fall Festival at the park where we do cake walks and face painting.  We have authors come to our school and read their books.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  When I first came to school here, I remember playing games with my friends.  It was a lot of fun.  I really like my friends here.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We get free play at the end of some days and we play with legos and other games.  On Friday’s after Math, we get to play math games.

Q:  Can you describe your school in one word?

A:  Yeah, it’s cool.

Q:  Is there anything else that you’d like to share?

A:  Yes, I really like the principal.  She’s nice.

Jason – 3rd grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  This is my fourth year.  I started here in Kindergarten.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She comes up with great ideas all of the time.

Q:  If your friend asked you why he should go to CEE, what would you tell him?

A:  I would tell them that we have a big pirate ship on the playground which is fun to play on.  We got to go to the chocolate factory as a class.  Also, we have Music and P.E. twice a week.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  In Kindergarten, I tried to glue my bottom to the chair.  I got the idea from a television show called Drake and Josh.  I got in a little trouble and had to get a new chair.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We have Fun Friday where we get to play games, draw on whiteboards, or read.  We have to have our work done to do all of this.  Also, we get to do enrichment class during the week.  They let us choose from interesting classes like theater, myths and legends, and lego building.

Q:  Can you describe CEE using one word?

A:  Fun

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  The people here are really nice.

Kyle – 4th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  This is my first year here.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is very organized and outgoing.

Q:  If your friend asked you why he should go to CEE, what would you say?

A:  The teachers challenge us here and they are amazing.  We get to go to JA Biztown where I learned how to balance a checkbook.  We also went on a desert survival field trip where we learned a lot about the environment.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  Since I’m new here, my favorite memory was meeting new friends.  They were really helpful when I first came here.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We get to go to enrichment once a week.  I go to book making and learn how to make different kinds of books.  My favorite was a purple book that I wrote a story in.  Also, we go to Spanish class every Tuesday and Thursday.  I really enjoy learning a new language.

Q:  Can you describe your school using one word?

A:  Challenging (in a good way).

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  The teachers are very helpful in Math.

Shayla – 4th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I came here from another charter school in the 3rd grade.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is kind and she loves to keep everything clean and organized.

Q:  If your friend was thinking about coming to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  I would tell them a lot of things.  Our principal is very nice.  The teachers are respectful, funny, and teach us a lot of new things.  You can make so many friends.  Finally, we have a huge gym and a small gym for P.E. and other things.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE? 

A:  We went on a cruise at a lake in Arizona.  If was our end of the year field trip and they taught us about nature.

Q:  Can you describe this school in one word?

A:  Exciting.

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  This school has so many special activities.

Hunter – 5th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since pre-school.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is very nice.

Q:  If your friend was considering coming to CEE, what you tell him?

A:  Well, first of all we’re a smaller school so it’s easier to meet new people.  We have a leadership program here called YELP where we learn how to be more effective leaders.  There are a lot of after school programs.  We do an overnight field trip to Lake Pleasant.  Finally, we have town hall meetings where we get individual and classroom awards.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  In Kindergarten, I would hang out with my two best friends and we’d just play games.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We have enrichment classes during the week.  Right now I’m studying the rain forest, which has 4 layers.

Q:  Can you describe CEE in one word?

A:  Energetic

Bryan – 6th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since Kindergarten.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher?

A:  She is really, really helpful.

Q:  If your friend was thinking about coming to CEE, what would you tell him?

A:  First of all, he’s going to make a lot of new friends.  The teachers make learning fun by doing more activities, rather than sitting and listening all of the time.  We have Fun Field Day where we go to the park and each teacher has an activity (i.e. tug-o-war, 50 yd. dash, and frisbee throw).  U.N. night is another great event.  We each choose a country and do research on that country.  Then we share our presentation to parents.  There is food tasting and performances in the gym.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  Definitely when we did our overnight field trip to Lake Pleasant.  We each had to raise $75 by doing things like bake sales.  We went on hikes and saw various wildlife.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We receive game time and computer time for working as a team in class.

Q:  Can you describe CEE using one word?

A:  Entertaining.

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  We’re a small school, so class sizes are smaller and we get a lot more attention from our teachers.

Caitlin – 7th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I’ve been here since pre-school.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher(s)?

A:  They are all very kind and they care about how we work in class and the progress we’re making.

Q:  If your friend was thinking about coming to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  First of all, the teachers want you to feel like family here.  They treat you as an individual and respect you for who you are.  The principal is always up front greeting people as they come in the door.  She’s like a family member.  Finally, the teachers make learning fun.  

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  In 5th grade, I learned so much about writing and now it is my favorite subject.  Ms. Detterbeck really made a difference in my life.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  We have several after school activities here, like gardening club and drama club.  I’m in drama club and love it.  We also have programs like YELP and Right Images that help us build our character.

Q:  Can you describe your school in one word?

A:  Home

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  This is my home away from home.  Everyone here is so warm and caring.

Sarah – 8th grade

Q:  How many years have you been at CEE?

A:  I started here in the 1st grade.

Q:  Can you name one special quality about your teacher(s)?

A:  They connect with us and care about helping us.

Q:  If your friend was considering coming to CEE, what would you tell her?

A:  The first thing I would say is that the teachers here really care about us.  Also, the curriculum is taught by using activities and other fun games to make it real.  We have music concerts where each student is encouraged to express themselves.  There are so many extracurricular activities.  For example, YELP has taught me so much about what it takes to be a leader.  Finally, the after school programs are awesome.  We have leadership council, various sports, chess club, and even fencing.

Q:  What is your favorite memory at CEE?

A:  In 6th grade when I went on a field trip to Tucson.  Also, my 6th grade teacher made a huge difference for me simply by showing me that she cared.

Q:  Aside from the academics, what are some other components of your CEE experience?

A:  Every morning we do morning work that is challenging and makes us think.  It’s a great way to start the day.  We also have a quote of the day that really gets us thinking.

Q:  Can you describe your school using one word?

A:  Individual

Q:  Is there anything else you’d like to share?

A:  I feel great about the fact that I know everyone in my class and that we’ve been together for years.  It’s going to be hard to leave them.
