Character Development

In addition to our rigorous academic curriculum, we feel that it is extremely important to address our students’ social and emotional needs (i.e. self-awareness, empathy, teamwork, etc…). Therefore, we have implemented numerous character development programs that serve as a foundation for both personal and academic success.

Character Counts!: This is a national program that is based on the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Each of our teachers embeds these principles into many of their daily lessons. In addition, the kids are consistently recognized for their efforts in “living” these pillars. For more information, please visit the Character Counts! website at www.charactercounts.org.

FISH philosophy: Originated in Seattle, Washington at the world famous Pike’s Place Market, the FISH philosophy has rapidly spread to thousands of businesses and schools throughout the country. The philosophy is based on four key practices: Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude. This program serves as a nice compliment to Character Counts! and helps bring the six pillars of character to life. For more information, please visit the FISH website at www.charthouse.com.

YELP: Owned and operated by Arizona resident and former Kyrene School District teacher Mike Sissel, YELP (Youth Exemplifying Leadership Principles) provides our students with an opportunity to develop their own character through an active learning process. As a certified facilitator of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Mike takes our kids on a personal development journey by giving them the necessary tools to be effective leaders. Each of our fourth through eighth grade students receives valuable leadership tools that ultimately serve as a foundation of their character. For more information, please visit the YELP website at www.azyelp.com.

Right Images: This dynamic program is designed to nourish the hopes and dreams of students with the lifetime tools of etiquette and manners. Suzanne Hargrave, President of Right Images, is passionate about providing her students with general etiquette rules and customs such as being polite and learning to cooperate with others. As a result of the Right Images program, CEE students are able to build their self-esteem through a process of discovery and share these gifts with others.
